How to advertise to developers in 2026
Developers block display ads and skim feeds. In 2026 there are three moments you can reach them: while they discover tools (feeds and newsletters), while they search (Google and Stack Overflow), and while they wait (AI coding tools "thinking"). The third one is new.
Channels and published prices
| Channel | Moment | Published price (source) |
|---|---|---|
| EthicalAds (docs and open source) | Reading docs | $3.10–$8.00 CPM, $1,000 minimum buy (ethicalads.io/advertisers, Q4 2026) |
| Carbon / BuySellAds | Browsing dev sites | By quote |
| daily.dev Ads | Discovering | See business.daily.dev |
| Stack Overflow Ads | Solving a problem | Sales-led |
| Reddit, LinkedIn, Google | Community, job title, search | Auction |
| AI coding tool sponsor lines (AIBC, Kickbacks and others) | Waiting on the model | AIBC from $0.25 per 1,000 views. Kickbacks' market price was $0.74–$2.48 per 1,000 on 28 Oct 2026 (kickbacks.ai public leaderboard) |
Writing a one-line ad that works
- Keep it under 60 characters (AIBC's limit). Say what the product is, plus one benefit. Skip hype words.
- Send clicks to a page made for developers, not your homepage.
- Measure effective CPM and signups, not click rate alone.
A 4-week test plan
Week 1: $50 on AIBC (use LAUNCH50: deposit $50, get $50 of ad credit, unlocked after $50 of real deposits) alongside one newsletter slot.
Weeks 2–4: move budget to whichever channel has the lower cost per signup.
